The Lord tells us to look at creation and learn from it. Hence, I will try to answer this question taking ques from creation to see patterns and draw parallels.
I am choosing the story of the grain of wheat falling to the ground (earth) and dying (John 12: 24-26) to bring forth my understanding of how true (Agape) love brings forth Heaven on Earth. If we look at God (Our Father) as the sower, it seems like we are the grains of wheat that have come into the earth to die and grow as trees that bear fruit (fruits of the Holy Spirit).
What is Jesus trying to reveal to us in this parable? How does death bring forth life - the Holy Spirit?
As humans we tend to fear death because its stepping from the known into the unknown. That’s why the Lord says fear not (Isiah 43:1) as the first thing to overcome. We also associate death to suffering and not joyful. However, when we love someone deeply we are willing to die to self or sacrifice our own likes, if the sacrifice or change makes the other happy. The pain does not seem to hurt at that point, instead it becomes joyful. We seem to enjoy sacrificing just to show how much we are willing to give up for the other as a measure of love. We find this as a common trait when people come into close relationships; like marriage.
Now lets look at Mother Mary who said ‘yes’ to the Lord and became worthy of carrying Christ. Mary knows that the consequence of her yes to the Lord is death, because she was unmarried. But her true love and trust in the Lord is so much that she is still willing to go forth. This makes it evident that perfect love casts out all fear.
If this true love is the answer, here’s what the Lord asks each one of us – “Do you love me? Do you really love me?”
Is our love so true that we are willing to give up our likes, our pleasures etc. just to tell him that we love Him? It’s surely going to cause us pain in trying to overcome the weaknesses of the flesh. He stretches out His arms like our Father, telling us that His grace can achieve it all and he has given us all that we need to step into the unknown. Do we trust Him? If we do surrender our will to His plan, we will experience Heaven on Earth; because then, we truly become His children.
